WHAT IS A CORACLE?
A coracle is a small vessel used by fishermen in ancient times in the British Isles. It is also said to have been used by Celtic missionaries who would set out from familiar shores to lands unknown without rudder, sail, or paddle, relying on God to bring them to his intended destination. It is a helpful image for your journey in life and in spiritual direction.

Jan 13: The coracle

It was a small oval vessel
A willow branch coracle
A simple craft
With rounded keel
And neither paddle nor sail
Step in, lean back, lie down and launch
To mysteries unknown
But where will it go?
What wave and wind today
How safe and secure the vessel
How sure the journey and destination
Don’t be afraid
You are enfolded in the care of my coracle
Adrift on the secure sea of my love
Guided by the gentle breeze of my breath
Rocked by the waves of my hand
Lean back, lie down, gaze upward
To the northern star
Our journey will surprise
Not always where you would choose to go
Not always calm seas
But always with and in
The coracle
